Etap Hotel and biodiversity

At Etap Hotel we strive to share our appreciation of nature with our customers and partners.

  • - We work with many nature protection associations.:
    • - In France, our hotels have been partners of the LPO (Society for the Protection of Birds) since 2006 to raise awareness among customers and partners of the protecting biodiversity.Every year, during on Earth Guest Day, Etap Hotel France deducts 0,30€ from our breakfast price to help fund bird care clinics.
    • - In Brazil, all our hotels work in collaboration with ProAves to sponsor the endangere Blue Macaw.
  • - We recommend, of that every new hotel is fitted with a ‘green’ roof, to promote biodiversity and to maximumise heat insulation and soundproofing. In Switzerland, 3 three hotels already have ‘green’ roofs.

Etap Hotel and energy

  • - We encourage renewable energy, by equipping our hotels with solar panels to heat our water. In France, as part of Accor’s "100 solar hotels" project, five Etap Hotel hotels are already equipped and 15 more should be by 2010.
  • - We promote eco-innovation when building our hotels. For example Etap Hotel Toulouse Aéroport, which opened in March 2009, uses a particularly innovative geothermal for its heating and air conditioning. For more information: go on the Etap Hotel Toulouse Aeroport website .
  • -We’re constantly improving daily energy management in our hotels. In 2008 :
    • - 72 % of Etap Hotel hotels were using fluorescent compact spots for lighting 24/hours a day (compared with 66% in 2007)
    • - 67% of our hotels were using energy-saving fluorescent bulbs (61% in 2007)

Etap Hotel and water

  • - 81% of our hotels monitor and anaylse their water consumption every month.
  • - We install flow regulators on the taps and showers, to control our water consumption. In 2008, 72% of our hotels were equipped with flow regulators on taps (63% in 2007), and 66% on showers (59% in 2007).

Etap Hotel and waste

  • - Our hotels incontinue to improve the sorting and recycling of the waste they generate. In 2008 :
    • - 73% of our hotels recycled paper and carton packaging (72% in 2007)
    • - 68% of our hotels recycled papers, newspapers and magazines (65% in 2007)
    • - 92% of hotels processed the hotel’s batteries and accumulators, and 61% processed those of customers (88% and 38% respectively in 2007)
    • - 94% of hotels recycled ink cartridges (92% in 2007)
  • 97% of our hotels implemented Accor Environment Charter with 65 ways in which our hotels can improve reduce their environmental impact. Find out more the Charter here (download the Charter).

Etap Hotel and local development

Etap Hotel supports fair trade, to promote fair trade relations between producers from the South and consumers from the North. Thus, in over 95% of our European network, you can enjoy Fair Trade-Max Havelaar label tea, coffee or chocolate for breakfast.

This support falls under the Accor group's sustainable development programme, Earth Guest. Launched in 2006, Earth Guest this programme combines Accor’s societal and environmental initiatives.
